Here kitty: A giant feline stalks the space of the new Melbourne Now exhibition.
Here’s a quick overview of the sprawling Melbourne Now exhibition at the Ian Potter Centre, Federation Square (24 March – 20 August 2023) including brief chats with NGV director Tony Ellwood AM and Kaantju woman Shonae Hobson, NGV curator of First Nations Art.
The scale of the exhibition covers huge spaces across all three levels of the gallery. There is a deeply enjoyable emphasis on large installations, some of which almost touch the ceiling, as well as an illuminating focus on the works of indigenous artists.
Entry is free, easily making the exhibition the best go-to event in town.
This article is to give you a taste of the exhibition, and is but the first in a series of videos about the exhibition. Coming soon are some illuminating interviews with some of the artists who have contributed some amusing and confronting pieces to Melbourne Now.
