Sweet, twee romantic fantasy in ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’; More fun with ‘The Bad Guys 2’

Love stare: Margot Robbie & Colin Farrell in ‘A Big Bold Beautiful Journey’.

A BIG BOLD BEAUTIFUL JOURNEY **1/2 (109 minutes) M
Two strangers brought together by fate after a wedding embark on a trip to key moments in their younger lives in a likeable, feather-light romantic fantasy about the ideal of living in the moment and how racking up a huge body count doesn’t necessarily equate to anything more than a few seconds of happiness.

A de-glammed Margot Robbie plays Sarah, the lady with the poor relationship record, opposite an unkempt Colin Farrell as David, who is carrying several metric tons of emotional baggage to do with his upbringing.

After some nice false meet-cutes, the pair head off down the road with the aid of a sentient sat nav that directs them to magical doors leading to past episodes in their lives.

Sweet as it is, the piece does feel and look like yet another movie stopping off briefly in cinemas before heading off to land in the stream, the place it was destined to be.

They’re back.

THE BAD GUYS 2 *** (104 minutes) PG
More high-octane animated fun with the critter crew from the 2022 hit action-comedy sees Mr Wolf (voiced by Sam Rockwell) and his team forced to join a heist that ultimately involves a magnet that attracts gold.

The pace is as fast and the plotting as frenetic as the first film, yet the characters are even more charming and funny this time around. And the standard of the animation, especially in the action scenes, is top shelf.

Already a huge hit in the UK and US, the film is set to follow suit here. Plans are already afoot for a third adventure. Can’t wait.
